Fund-Raising Events Held:
Provides details of fund raising activity event, including receipts and expenditures specific to the event. Not required if all contributions received at a particular fund-raiser are itemized in the Monetary and In-kind Contributions Received section.

Fund-raising Event (§130.011(17) RSMo):

An event such as a dinner, luncheon, reception, coffee, testimonial, rally, auction or similar affair through which contributions are solicited or received by such means as the purchase of tickets, payment of attendance fees, donations for prizes or through the purchase of goods, services or political merchandise.

  1. §130.011(23) RSMo – Political merchandise includes goods such as bumper stickers, pins, hats, ties, jewelry, literature, or other items sold or distributed at fund-raising events or to the general public for publicity or for the purpose of raising funds to be used in supporting or opposing a candidate for nomination or election or in supporting or opposing the qualification, passage or defeat of a ballot measure.

Reporting a fund-raiser is required:

If a candidate or committee accepts anonymous contributions between $25 and $100, at a fundraising event, without obtaining the contributor’s name and address (ex: pass the hat, fishbowl, donation bucket, etc.)

To qualify as a fundraising the following conditions must be met:

  • 25 or more participants must contribute to the event
  • Anonymous contributions cannot exceed $100 per person
  • An announcement must be made stating no person may make an anonymous contribution exceeding $100. (Any contribution accepted exceeding $100 must have the contributor’s name, address and employer or, if self-employed, occupation.)
  • The person responsible for conducting the event does not knowingly accept any contributions exceeding $100 without the contributor’s name, address and employer or, if self-employed, occupation. A statement describing the event is filed with the committee’s disclosure report. The statement must include the following information in addition to and not in lieu of other requirements of the campaign finance disclosure law (§130.031.6 RSMo):
    1. Name and mailing address of candidate or committee for whom the funds were raised
    2. Name and address of the location of the event
    3. Brief description of the type of event and the fund-raising methods used
    4. Date of event
    5. Approx. number of participants
    6. Name and mailing address of the person responsible for conducting the event
    7. Total contributions ($100 or less/person) from persons whose name, address and employer, or, if self-employed, occupation, could not be obtained AND explanation why it was not possible to obtain the information
    8. Total contributions from participants who are identified by their name, address and employer or, if self-employed, occupation, and included in the committee records
    9. Gross receipts from the event
    10. Expenditures for the event
